Our Story We all need positive role models, someone to be inspired by and to gain direction from. There are not many mainstream Muslim role models, although more Muslims are coming to the forefront in all fields of industry. The areas of media, art and design are definitely not the traditional route for Muslims to take with most Muslims entering the medical or IT fields, (source:Government National Statistics). So, what should a young Muslim who loves media, art or design do? The idea behind MAD mentors is to offer young Muslims a chance to explore their options, and by matching them with Muslims who are already working in their field to give them that positive role model to aspire to and gain experience in their chosen fields. Mentoring seeks to address barriers that young people face. For instance young Muslims face racial and religious prejudice, family pressures, and the mainstream does not always correspond with Muslim ideology. By having successful mentors in the fields of media, arts and design working with MAD mentors, young people can explore the options available to them. The young people can find out how the mentors achieved success, and therefore how they in turn can achieve it. We want to encourage young people to aspire to their dreams and aspirations.
